Speakeasy - The New Roaring Twenty's : Letter from the Editor

Updated: Mar 4, 2021

⁣“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof...” - Proverbs 18:21 KJV

Chasing your dreams is h a r d ; especially once you put it into the atmosphere what you’re setting out to do, you think you won’t meet some challenges, some tests, some distractions? The enemy will use the mouths of your naysayers but even more the people around you. This can be your employer after all the hard work you’ve put out, you’ve received a less than worthy rating for the year, this can be your mother when she hasn’t called you in two weeks and have you worried sick, knowing that is the one thing that drains you, this could even be your longest girlfriend talking down your intimate ideas after you finally felt comfortable enough to share your dream.

“Sometimes, when the devil speaks to you, he uses your own voice...” - Unknown

Some of my hardest times have been fights against myself. The negative self talk, fear of what others will say, and lack of trust that my passions since childhood really are my calling are so off from what I know to be true. So why would I allow myself to be told the things that are so detrimental to my growth? Even the old adage of “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” says that the words used against you cannot limit you. It would be silly to allow the opinions of self or others get in the way of fulfilling the calling on your life. So why do you?

Are you being nice to you? Understanding with you? Patient with you? All of the things we want for ourselves from others, why wouldn’t you want that from yourself?

This is the new Roaring Twenties, and this century we’re speaking excellence into all that we do, all that our counterparts do, all that external factors will do. We are pouring into ourselves and others in the way that we and they deserve it. We are only tolerating that which serves us, fulfills us, feeds us...

And we are keeping that same energy in every aspect of our lives.

We are edifying ourselves,

We are encouraging others

We are exemplifying grace and truth,

You live a life of all things hoped for and all things earned. You better stop allowing yourself to listen to false testimony. Speak easy to yourself and others, you’re worth it.

Welcome to Speakeasy, the New Roaring Twenty’s !

Thankfully yours,

🤎 - Alexis P. Jordan
